SLCAA, MIC Sign MOU for Integrated ICT Systems

In a bid to digitalized ICT Infrastructure, Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) for the implementation of Integrated Information Communication Technology Systems of the Authority. The objective of the MOU is to enable the SLCAA to migrate its key functions from manual paper-base systems to digital.
In his welcome address, the MIC Permanent Secretary, Edward Kwame Yankson, noted that the signing of the MOU was a fulfillment of the Manifesto promises of President Bio in digitalization. This, he added, was also part of the Medium-Term National Development Plan.
“We want to pledge our support to the Ministry of Transport and Aviation and promise to always work together to achieve the dreams of His Excellency Dr Julius Maada Bio,” he said.
In his remarks, the Minister of Information and Communication, Hon. Mohamed Swarray, expressed excitement that the two Ministries have decided to work together to enhance and practicalized His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio’s vision for digital connectivity in Sierra Leone.
“This is in sync with cluster 3.5 of the National Development Plan which is to improve ICT services and to ensure it is integrated into all development initiatives for growth, innovation, and building a digital economy”, the Minister said.
In his brief statement, the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Hon. Kabineh Kallon extended thanks to the Ministry of Information and Communication for honouring the request to sign the MOU. “This is just a manifestation of collaboration among Ministries, which is essential for development.”
“This MOU when signed and implemented will help the SLCAA in its internal administrative functions and as well as interactions with the travelling public who are the main beneficiary of air transport”, he said.
The Minister ended that one of the reasons for the proposed ICT solution is to implement Information and Communication Technology systems that are technically viable and financially affordable for the migration of key SLCAA functions to digital platforms.
In his statement, the Director General of SLCAA – Moses Tiffa Baio said it has been his desire to see SLCAA transforms and he has been working towards that.
The MOU was signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Edward Kwame Yankson and the Director General, SLCAA, Moses Tiffa Baio and witnessed by the Director of Communications Ministry of Information and Communications, Mohamed M. Jalloh and the Manager, Information and Communication Technology, Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority, Emmanuel Kange.
