SLCAA SUPPORTS HAJJ FACILITATION PROCESS

The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority has supported the successful facilitation process of the 2019 Hajj Pilgrimage to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Authority facilitated the departure of 900 pilgrims in total of which the first batch 450 pilgrims departed on Saturday 3rd August 2019 and the second batch of 450 on Monday 5th August 2019.

Hajj is believed to be a submission to Allah and a fundamental Islamic requirement which all adult Muslims are mandated to perform once in their lifetime.

Among the major roles played by SLCAA, the facilitating team complemented the effort of the Hajj Committee, Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs and the Ministry of Transport and Aviation by providing 
assistance to the pilgrims; provided regulatory function which included assisting the facilitation process in accordance with Annex 9 of the ICAO Document, conducted Foreign Airlines Safety Assessment Program 
(FASAP) before boarding, granted landing permit and advised on operational issues.

The head of the SLCAA facilitation team, Osman Jalloh said it was a normal routine for the SLCAA to provide facilitation during every Hajj departure and this year was not an exception. He commented further that the 
Authority is committed to guaranteeing the safety and security of all citizens who have met the requirement to perform the function.
